Hey there ladies! Happy Monday! Today we present the lovely Jessica Ciampini! She’s a Certified Personal Trainer, Digital Marketing & Communications Manager, Author and soon to be serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. Student of life!
Alrighty Jess, in you’re very busy lifestyle, how do you manage to make time for self-care? What is self-care to you?
“Self care to me means taking care of the Mind, Body and Soul. I believe self –care is consistent nourishment and creating a daily routine even if that means getting out of your comfort zone, which eventually becomes second nature. Starting with the Mind: punctuate your day with a mini-meditation with one minute of awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations; one minute of focused attention on breathing; and one minute of awareness of the body as a whole. I also like to put my phone on DND (do not disturb) mode at 9:00pm until 9:00am the next day. Only after I completed my daily routine than will I respond. First comes M Y schedule before taking anyone else’s messages or phone calls. Secondly, Body: 100% starting my day with physically activity, means working out/jogging or swimming. I like to get to know myself intimately. Look lovingly and without judgment at myself naked. (you can use a mirror to make sure you get to know all of you!) Lastly is Soul: Making a small connection with a stranger. This could mean I may exchange a few sentences of conversation with someone I see in the grocery store line, coffee shop, gym, could be anywhere literally! Biggest thing I’ve been working on is, asking for help. Big or small, just reach out.”
How do you adjust to new environments?
"I believe I’m very good at adapting to changes and adjusting to new environments. Personally, I feel this is a key attribute to develop in our lives, weather it be a professional work environment, home or relationships, transition can be take a toll on our bodies and our minds or may even effect our health. To adjust accordingly isn’t human-like, so I’ve learned to collect the things I am passionate about and input into my new environment. One thing is, I like to live a healthy lifestyle and its extremely important for me to live that everyday. In any case, I’ll make myself at home by de-cluttering and getting excited about the new people I’d be meeting or the new gym I’d be training at. Sometimes it can be very worry-some, for sure and currently I’m going through this now. While looking for a short term home, I know my home gym means I need to give that up and get out of my comfort zone. I always like to refer to my WHY, this always keeps me in check and relieves my stress or anxiety."
What do you listen to in order to keep yourself focused?
I love all sorts of music, depending on my mood is based on the music I listen to. To keep me focused, l discovered the piano or guitar has really helped me in those evenings where I am totally distracted or my mind is having a difficult time working on one thing. Usually I refer back to YouTube for this, I go for the 1 hour music videos and during this time I challenge myself to work on my tasks I assigned myself until the music is finished. I look at it as a fun way of setting a routine and figuring out what works best is all the part of the process.
